Not By Blood by Chris Narozny Review
I received an advanced copy of this book from the author by request, as I was intrigued by the book blurb. The story follows a woman who gets an unsettling call from her brother, which leads to the discovery of a dead man, a chilling text message from an unknown sender, and a lot more questions than answers as the characters’ complicated pasts slowly come to light.
The story was well written and organized, in a way where I couldn’t put the book down because I wanted to know more about all the mysterious parts from different characters that led to the current circumstances. The author did a good job of giving just enough glimpses of the past and the present to keep me on my toes. I shared the MC’s frustrations at all the questions that couldn’t be answered; I empathized with her heartbreaking past and current situation; I really needed to get to the end of the story to feel at peace with everything that’s happened.
I can’t say that I’d guessed the end of the book would wrap up the way that it did, but it didn’t have a mind-blowing twist to it that I was expecting at that point. But just when I thought that the dust had settled, I was hit with an unexpected revelation that made me reevaluate some of the opinions I had formed earlier on. Well played, Mr. Narozny.
